Where Did Summer Go?

Summer is pretty much over and now it’s time to get back into the swing of university life. 5 weeks ago, I was thinking about how I have weeks and weeks with my better half. Yet now, I don’t see where all that time went. It’s gone.

University still doesn’t start until the end of September for me, but that hasn’t stopped me from keeping busy now that I’m on my own again. I am continuing to do as many hours at work as possible to earn that bit of extra money that I will need.

Although summer is over, here’s a list of things I’m looking forward to over the next year.

I will be going into my third year, which means that it’s not actually too long until I have finished for good. Third year is the time to really specialise in the things I love most – like poetry and thriller novels. I can’t wait to produce more work that I am proud of and finally feel like I’m almost ready to go out and get a job. The only downside is that I don’t have much contact time in my third year but I’m sure I’ll still be kept busy.

Some of you may be wondering why I’ve added this one in. Looking forward to working? Really? It’s more the money and the people. I’m looking forward to feeling like I can support myself and also save a little bit here and there for when I move out. It’s also nice to do something different to university – being around different people. It has a completely different vibe and means I don’t always have to be 100% focused on deadlines.

In my second year I was a tutor for a charity called Schools+. I would go to a school once a week and tutor AS English Literature students. I really enjoyed it and it taught me things about myself that I wouldn’t have known otherwise. Firstly, I found out that actually I remembered quite a bit from when I studied English Literature and it was so rewarding to know I could pass my knowledge on to the students and make a difference. Secondly, I found out that I do have a passion for tutoring. I’m not entirely sure if I want to be a full-time teacher yet but that’s a different story. Anyway, from September I will be the new Schools+ coordinator for my university and I’m looking forward to helping others and also tutoring again.

I am looking forward to being able to start my life! I want to get out there, get a proper job, live somewhere with my boyfriend and finally be where I want to be. I have enjoyed being where I am now and it has flown by, but I really want to start my life now. I want to make a change, I want to be the person I know I can be and end up somewhere wonderful. Whether it will end up that way that soon, I’m not sure. But I’m hopeful and that’s step one, I guess.

Books, books, books

I’m looking forward to getting back into reading. I read a few books when I went on holiday, and I loved always having something to read. However, I find that once I stop reading for a short while, I find it difficult to get back on track. This next year I will be reading a lot of books and I still have quite a few left on my bookshelf that aren’t for my course, but I still want to read. This includes the Harry Potter books – I know! I’m shameful. Once I get back into it, I know I’ll just keep reading.
